Born in 1989 in Bandjoun, Cameroon, BienvenueFotso lives and works in Douala, Cameroon. For as long as she can remember, traditional medicine has always been part of her environment, as she comes from a family of tradition-keepers where certain cultural practices have always prevailed. A headache or fever was quickly brought under control after chewing the “King of herbs” or any other decoction. These highly medicinal barks, leaves and roots can not only purify and invigorate the human heart, but also and above all heal the ills of the body. Her work, which she calls “archi-landscape”, allows her to poetically evoke the multiple and linked destinies between Man and the forest, in order to explore nature as a whole. Bienvenue Fotso paints with acrylic on canvas. She builds her canvases slowly and works meticulously with a very clean, harmonious and luminous palette. Her brushstrokes are fluid and her contours precise. She creates an effect of transparency and symbiosis, allowing us to see through to the main subject. In 2022, Bienvenue presented her first solo exhibition at the African Art Beats gallery in Washington DC and took part in the group show “PEACE” at BOLO, Douala.
